Steinhauer Through the Years
On October 21, 1933, Hendrik Jan Steinhauer laid the foundation for what would become a leading family-owned business in decorative lighting. Starting with a modest assortment in Amsterdam, Steinhauer grew steadily over the decades into a trusted name in the Netherlands and far beyond.
In-House Production and Signature Style
In the early days, Steinhauer manufactured its lighting fixtures entirely in-house. Our workshops housed impressive vacuum-forming machines used to create plastic lampshades. In the 1970s, these were especially popular in iconic orange and brown tones — true hallmarks of the era.

Trade Shows and Brand Evolution
Over the years, Steinhauer exhibited at numerous trade fairs — from Culemborg and Cologne to the major international lighting fair in Frankfurt. Our in-house showroom events were also widely attended. Trade shows were the perfect stage to showcase our latest collections.

It wasn’t just our products that evolved — our logo, stationery, and overall branding changed with the times.

From Amsterdam to Apeldoorn
Our journey began in Amsterdam and later moved to the Venkelstraat in Apeldoorn, followed by the Lage Brink location, and finally to our current headquarters at Laan van de Ram 40.

Three Generations of Craftsmanship
After founder Hendrik Jan, his sons Paul and Marcel Steinhauer took over the business. Today, the third generation is at the helm with Mark Steinhauer, and his son Tom has also joined the company. A true family business through and through.
Shifting Production and Logistics
Starting in 2002, production gradually moved from the Netherlands to China. In 2016, manufacturing in the Netherlands ceased completely — a strategic move in an increasingly global and competitive market.
In 2022, we reached another milestone: with over 6,000 m² of warehouse space, our logistics operations were fully outsourced. A few years earlier, we had already transitioned from using our own delivery trucks and vans to relying on logistics companies and parcel services.

From handcrafted plastic shades to international logistics — Steinhauer continues to evolve without forgetting its roots. Our rich history is the foundation for a bright and innovative future.
